Things to do
The World of James Herriot offers teachers the opportunity to teach their pupils and students outside the classroom. Our interactive and hands-on workshops are designed to meet the National Curriculum and cover the subjects History, Literacy, Art, and Citizenship.
We offer one hour facilitated sessions which can be combined with your visit to the museum. Almost all sessions can be delivered as outreach sessions in your classroom as well.
The workshop programmes can be downloaded from the links below. If you want to view the programme online please scroll down to the end of this page.

Here are some impressions from pupils and students after visiting the museum
Primary School pupils
"I really enjoyed looking at instruments that James Herriot would have used. The pill injecting was my favourite because I thought it was fascinating"
"Thank you for inviting us to your museum. We had a wonderful time, I particularly liked visiting the air raid cellar because I got to have an experience of being in World War 2, it was terrifying but also gave me a shiver of excitement."
"The best thing I learned was that they did not have a fridge."
"My favourite part was the studio. It was awesome pretending to shoot film."
Secondary School students
"The visit opened my eyes up to reality; the trip to the James Herriot Centre was very informative and was very applicable to business studies. I think that applying our business knowledge to a real life situation made to us and makes to future students the trip a success".
"I enjoyed the visit to the James Herriot Museum and I thought I learned a lot from the day. It helped develop my team work abilities and also helped me understand the business side of the museum more. I think the day helped with my marketing work for my A Level business class and it resulted in my having useful information to use in lessons and exams."
