Easter Sunday 4th April - The History of the World in 100 objects

join listeners of BBC Radio York in listening to Alison Scurrah, Manager of the World of James Herriot, talk about the magic of the centre, James Herriot the world's most famous vet and the All Creatures Great and Small Manuscripts which are held at the World of James Herriot and are featured on the BBC History of the World website

14th - 27th - Armed Forces Day - Visitor Discount

The World of James Herriot and a number of other attractions locally are supporting Armed Forces Day by offering discounted admission to our attractions from the 14 - 27 June inclusive. We are offering a 2 for 1 discount. Serving officers must show their warrant card to gain the discount. Retired officers should have obtained a 'veterans card' from one of the Council offices. We are not able to issue these veterans cards.

Science Fair - August 31st until 3rd September

The Science Fair is linked to our Summer Holiday Science Lab. The results of various experiments will be presented to the public. Normal admission charges apply.

October

Herriot Convention - Friday 1st until Sunday 3rd

The Big Draw - Saturday 9th

Join us for a day of fun drawing. This years Big Draw theme asks you to Make Your Mark on the Future. Closely linked with our Special exhibition in October we will explore habitats & habitation and imagine the future landscapes. Create your very own landscape using the material provided.

All day long, normal admission charges apply.

Halloween Fun - Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st

Enjoy a spooky trail through the Skeldale House and prepare yourself for the Halloween night!

Card Crafting, Saturday 4th

Create your own personal Christmas cards for sending out to family and friends. More information to come.

Christmas at Skeldale - Tuesday 7th and Tuesday 14th
Come along and join James Harriot's daughter in Skeldale House. Rosie will take you on a guided tour around Skeldale House and will tell you stories of her father's life and work. Booking essential as seats are limited. Cost £7.50

 

Holiday Activities and Workshops

May

Half Term Activities 31st May - 5th June

Drop in craft activities on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. You can come along and craft a bookworm, a watering can, a tissue flower and an origami animal to take home. The sessions run from 1pm-4pm. Normal admission charges apply.

May Half Term Workshop 2nd June - Kite - 2pm - 4pm

Book yourself a place in our Kite Workshop. You will receive more information on kites, where they come from and why we use them. Cross fingers for a windy day, as we will try our own crafted kites in the back garden. You can design your kite, colour it and take it home afterwards. Booking fee is £5.50 (incl. entry and materials). The workshop is suitable for kids between 8 - 12 years.

National Family Week Event - Saturday 5th

Find your roots - Grow your Family Tree: Visit the World of James Herriot and find out more about his family and where he comes from. Take part in our free Genealogy workshop and learn how and where you can find out more information on your ancestors. Create your own family tree to take home. Workshops will take part at 1.30pm and 3pm and are free of charge. A Special Trail will be available for kids to take them around the museum.

July and August

Summer Holiday Activities - Tuesday 27th and Thursday 29th July/ Tuesdays 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th August

Drop in craft sessions, everyone is welcome! Just come along and use the material provided to enjoy a summer themed crafting activity. Cross fingers for many sunny days, as we will use the museum garden for the sessions. You also can take your craft home. Runs from 1pm-4pm.

Normal admission charges apply for the sessions.

August

Science Lab - Thursdays 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th August

We will go scientific during the summer holidays! You will explore chemistry, biology and physics by doing exciting research in four different workshops. Learn how to raise a hypothesis, to document and to undertake experiments carefully.
As you will become a sophisticated scientist we will also arrange a science fair where you are able to present the results. You might want to attend one or more workshops, as the experiments will vary each time. Booking is required because places are limited! The workshops are suitable for kids between 8-12 years.


Time: 1.30pm-3.30pm
Prices: £5.50 for one workshop. Book all four workshops and get one free! We are part of the Me Too! Scheme. Children may use their vouchers for the workshops.

The Science Fair will run from 31st August - 3rd September in the Skeldale Room!

October

Half Term Activities 25th October - 29th October

Daily drop in craft session, 10.30am-12pm and 2.30pm-4pm

Normal admission charges apply, the October half term activities will be run in partnership with North Yorkshire National Parks. More information to come.

Halloween Masks, Saturday 30th

Come in and craft a scary mask for your trick and treat hunt. 10.30am-12pm and 2.30pm-4pm.

December

Card Workshop, Saturday 4th

Enjoy a workshop on card making and craft your personal Christmas card for sending out to your friends! Listen to Christmas music and enjoy stories for getting into the Christmas mood.

The workshop runs from 11am - 1pm. Costs: £5. Booking required because places are limited.

Christmas Holiday Activities

Drop in craft sessions, 10.30am - 12pm and 2.30pm-4pm, 20th, 21st and 23rd December. More information to come.

Christmas Workshop, Wednesday 23rd

Enjoy a workshop around wax and make your own Christmas candle. We will try to make different shapes and decorate all the candles with festive ornaments. This is also a great idea for crafting a last minute gift.

The workshop runs from 11am-1pm. Costs are £5. Booking is required as places are limited.
